Amazon Shipped More Than A Billion Items in the 2016 Holiday Season

Amazon Prime shipped more than one billion items this holiday season, with sales from the Amazon Echo family up more than 9 times from the same period last year, making this the best-ever season for the online retailer. Other top sellers included the Fire TV stick and Fire tablet.

According to a company statement, more people around the world tried Prime this holiday than any previous year with 72% shopping on a mobile device. Shopping on the free Amazon mobile app increased by 56%.

The company employed more than 200,000 full-time and seasonal employees in the U.S. to ship items with fulfillment centers in San Marcos Texas, Kent Washington as well as two centers in Poland shipping more than one million items in a single day. The peak worldwide shipping day was Dec 19.
